Biography

Dr. Warner is a tenured professor at UTHealth Houston and holder of the Doan-Huynh-Le Endowed Professorship in General Dentistry. He is a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), and Fellow of the Special Care Dental Association and Academy of Laser Dentistry. Dr. Warner has been elected to several honor societies with induction into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and Fellowships in the International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists, Academy of Dentistry International, Pierre Fauchard Academy and National Academies of Practice.

He brings over 4 decades of private practice experience in caring for patients with special healthcare needs to academia. Dr. Warner directs or contributes to courses for undergraduate, graduate, and International Dentist Education Program (IDEP) students. In his teachings, he fosters collaborative ethical outcomes enriched through partnerships with institutions such as McGovern Medical School, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Baylor College of Medicine and UH Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine.

Dr. Warner has held national leadership roles in organized dentistry such as chair of the National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards of the American Dental Association (ADA), delegate in the AGD House, and director on Boards of the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry, and Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities. He is on the ADA Test Construction Committees for the Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE), Dental Licensure Objective Structured Clinical Examination (DLOSCE), and Advanced Dental Admission Test (ADAT). At the local level, his service includes the Dental Review Panel of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, boards of the Texas and Houston AGD, and committees of the Greater Houston Dental Society and UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry.

Some of his accolades are the Alando J. Ballantyne Head and Neck Surgery Award, M. G. and Lillie A. Johnson Cancer Treatment and Research Award, George Finley III Foundation Skin Cancer Research Award, Dean’s Excellence Award in the Scholarship of Application, and AGD Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition Award.

Dr. Warner’s research interests focus on oral oncology, head and neck skin lesions, movement disorders, behavior interventions, and mindfulness practices. He is dedicated to enhancing patient outcomes for the underserved and those facing complex cognitive, physical, or chronic health challenges by implementing innovative care models and advocating for expanded access to resources.
