Periodontics (Gum Disease)
Periodontics is focused exclusively on the gums and other supporting structures around the teeth.
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal or gum disease, and in the placement of dental implants.
UT Dentists periodontists treat gum disease that may range from mild gingivitis to more severe periodontitis, using techniques that include scaling and root planing (cleaning infected root surfaces), root surface debridement (removing damaged tissue), and regenerative procedures to reverse bone and tissue loss.
When necessary, our periodontists also perform surgical procedures for patients with severe gum disease, including the placement, maintenance and repair of dental implants.
